Turnout Gear & Firefighter Clothes
When battling a fire, firefighters must protect their bodies from flames and extreme temperatures. With the evolution of fire-causing agents including chemicals, the fabric of turnout gear, also known as firefighter bunker gear, has been optimized to improve the physical barrier between the fire and first responders. Two of the most commonly used fabrics are Nomex IIIA and Kevlar.
There are different types of fire clothing that our men and women wear at the station or while out on a call, Flame-Resistant and Flame-Retardant. Both types of fabric protect our firefighters from harm’s way, but different emergencies call for different types of clothing and fire gear. Flame-Resistant clothing is made from materials that will naturally self-extinguish, so the clothing is resistant to flames and embers. Flame-Retardant clothing is made from materials that are chemically treated to achieve the same self-extinguishing properties. Most firefighter turnout coats and pants are made from flame-resistant Nomex and heat-resistant Kevlar.
Over the years, turnout coats and turnout pants have become more affordable, comfortable and protect our first responders against higher temperatures. Top brands such as Fire-Dex, Propper, and Workrite have designed NFPA 1971, NFPA 1975 and NFPA 1977 Wildland certified fire pants, fire coats and Wildland overpants for fire departments across the country.

Additional Fire & Rescue Gear Available
Luckily, all fire department call-outs do not require you to fully dress in turnout gear. For example, you may get a call to a vehicle accident where a victim needs extrication. In these situations, having optimal dexterity and protection from punctures is imperative for your success. Turnout gear may not allow for the flexibility required to assist the victim, extrication suits and rescue gloves may be more appropriate.
In addition to firefighter turnout gear for sale, Galls also offers a large selection of FR shirts, FR pants, Nomex fire gear, fire hoods, fire boots, emergency vehicle lights plus additional fire rescue gear. Shop some of the best online prices of firefighter equipment today!
